Domain Optimization

With a recent confession from Google, they have decided that just having the keyword phrase domain will get you the top ranked site in the search results.

So, what to do?

Unless you have domains like "sex.com" (and I know some of you do) the rest of us are going to have to put in some sweat equity.

The search engines are mostly looking for 2 things:
Links and Unique Content

I can't stress how important it is to have unique content. Since the engines are programmed by humans, we know that there are only so many ways to describe how to drive a car. So, despite what Google may tell you, there is a high threshold of tolerance that is considered before it gets labled as duplicate content.

Keeping that in mind, the only way to set yourself apart from the other 1,000 sites displayed are the links pointing to your site. That's where most SEO's spend their time - acquiring links.

So what does that mean for your domain?

The first step is to use my domain template (click the link) whenever you park a page or if you just want to have a one-page site. To quickly break it down, here's what it consists of:
  • Properly using your Title Tag
  • Using your Meta Tags (Yes, they are still important)
  • Use the H1 tag - once
  • Write ORIGINAL content
  • Insert advertisement(s)
After that, get some links. There are about 500 directory submission services out there that you can use and if you want a list, stay tuned as I'll be posting it soon.

To see this in action, visit my MBA Sustainability (www.mbasustainability.com) page. It's #1 in Google search, uses bulleted keywords, uniquely written statement taken from many sites and "re-purposed" to meet the needs of the advertisers, AND search engines. It's quick and easy!

Enjoy the ride,
Paul Bliss
