Keyword Domains | ||

One of the great things about doing seo is that you get exposed to many clients in all verticals, and at the same time you get to learn about many industries in an intimate manner, and along the way can provide some insight for keywords.
As part of a complete online strategy, you should always try to obtain any keyword domains that are relevant to your industry. For one particular client that I presented this idea to, they were at first non-believers in taking this path. So, the journey to enlighten them to the benefits of owning a keyword domain had begun. The first thing I asked them was - if you could be ranked #1 in Google for any phrase, what would that be? They provided me their answer and then we typed that into Google. The third result was an exact match of the keyword they wanted to be ranked for. We investigated the site - it was parked and for sale. I asked the CEO how much they thought that domain was worth to them. I told them to imagine themselves owning the #3 spot in Google THE MOMENT THEY OWNED THAT DOMAIN - and how much money that domain alone could bring them over the course of just the next 10 years. It was at that point you could see the numbers clicking in their minds - it was a great moment to see a client 'get it' when it comes to domaining and their value that they can bring to any company. Once they were able to internalize the value of the domain to them, they became much more interested in acquiring it. By taking that example and then applying it to category and long-tail phrases, it's easy to see how valuable those precious pieces of virtual real-estate are really worth. It doesn't matter how niche or broad your offerings are - if you own 'OrangeChairs.com' and that's one of the items you sell, you'll OWN that one-of-a-kind piece of real estate, and in turn build your brand by owning the exact phrase of a product or service you offer.
