Optimization Services

I can't imagine what it feels like to be an outsider looking to get seo services from the countless vendors who sell themselves as seo experts. Having been in this industry over 7 years now, I've seen many things come and go, so it's easy for me to pick out which vendors are legit and would provide good service versus others who are just trying to make a quick buck.

So, with that, I've composed a 'checklist' of items you should consider before selecting a vender to provide you with sem services. (Keep in mind that I have a strict list of requirements I would look for if I were to hire a company)
  • Talk to the actual specialist who will be working on your project - sales people will sell fluff, the specialist will provide real expectations
  • Ask for testimonials of other clients
  • Ask about their client retention rate - keep in mind that even satisfied clients leave due to budgets, or change in organizational structure
  • Ask them about their link building strategy
  • How long have they been in business
  • Don't expect any guarantees
  • Don't hire anyone who guarantees top rankings organically
  • Ask for results of current clients
  • What is the expected time frame for results
  • Be sure to clearly define what a conversion means to your business
  • How many conferences have they attended in the past year
  • How many conferences have they spoken at in the past year
  • How many clients do they serve
  • What type of reporting do they provide
  • Who are their competitors
  • What blogs do they read
  • Do they have any case studies
  • What services do they provide
  • How will the industry look in 1 year
  • What is the most effective strategy to employ for your site's needs
  • Is there an 'economy of scale' applied for many keywords
  • Can they still provide service if they can't modify any site code
Those are the questions I would ask a vendor before I forked over my money to them, and yes, all those have been asked of me in the past!

Enjoy the ride,
Paul Bliss
